Common payment scams

  • Phishing Emails: Scammers send deceptive emails that appear to be from legitimate sources, asking recipients to click on links and provide sensitive payment information.
  • Invoice Fraud: Fraudsters send fake invoices, often with altered bank details, tricking individuals or businesses into making payments to the wrong accounts.
  • Online Shopping Scams: Fake online stores lure customers with attractive deals but never deliver the purchased items, leaving victims without their products or refunds.
  • Advance Fee Fraud: Scammers ask for upfront payments or fees with the promise of a larger reward or service, but they never deliver on their promises.
  • Ransomware Attacks: Cybercriminals encrypt victims' files and demand a ransom in cryptocurrency for the decryption key, affecting both individuals and organizations.

How to identify a scam.

  1. Too Good to Be True: If an offer or opportunity seems overly generous or promises unrealistic returns, it's likely a scam.
  2. Urgent and Pressure Tactics: Scammers often create a sense of urgency, pressuring you to make quick decisions without proper research.
  3. Unsolicited Communications: Be cautious of unexpected emails, calls, or messages requesting personal or financial information.
  4. Poor Grammar and Spelling: Scam messages often contain typos, grammatical errors, or poorly designed websites.
  5. Request for Payment or Personal Information: If you're asked to send money or share sensitive data, especially through unsecured channels, it's likely a scam.

  4. Driver's License Number
  5. Online Banking Passwords
  6. Mother's Maiden Name
  7. Personal Identification Number (PIN)
  8. Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  9. Passwords for Online Accounts
  10. National Identification Number (e.g., National ID card)
  11. Passport Number
  12. Full Birthdate
  13. Home Address
  14. Phone Passwords or PINs
  15. Email Account Passwords
  16. Any Confidential Business Information
  17. Sensitive Biometric Data (e.g., fingerprints or facial recognition data)

How ZeGid may contact you

Emails

  • All emails from ZeGid will come from addresses ending in ‘zegidpay.com’ (e.g., zegidpay.com, updates.zegidpay.com, and alerts.zegidpay.com).
  • We may send various messages to the email linked to your ZeGid profile:
  1. Transaction Alerts: These include notifications about debit and credit transactions, savings updates, gift card codes, electricity meter tokens, and stock trading activity.
  2. Announcements: You'll receive updates on app improvements, promotions, new features, scheduled downtimes, and maintenance.
  3. Device Change: We inform you whenever you sign in to your ZeGid account from a new device.
  4. Password Change: Notifications are sent when you request a password change via your ZeGid app or app.zegidpay.com.
  5. Account Statement: You'll receive your account statement in spreadsheet or PDF format upon request through your ZeGid app.

SMS

  1. Phone Number Confirmation: We send a code to verify that the phone number added to your ZeGid profile is yours.
  2. BVN Confirmation: You'll receive a code to confirm your BVN (Bank Verification Number) linked to your ZeGid profile.
  3. Card Payment Confirmation: Codes are sent to confirm any card payments you initiate.

Phone Calls

We may call you to address complaints, transaction disputes, provide important account information, share surveys, or simply check in on your experience with ZeGid.

Rest assured, if we call you, we'll clearly identify ourselves and explain the purpose of the call. Importantly, we'll never ask for sensitive account details like your password, passcode, transaction PIN, card CVV (the three-digit number on the back of your debit card), or your Transfer ID.
